Elida Almeida

In just 2 years, Elida Almeida has made a name for herself performing at world music venues in Europe, Africa and North America.
On her second album, Kebrada (named for the village where she grew up), she asserts her African identity, seasoning her Cabo Verdean beats – batuque, funaná, coladera and tabanka – with Latino energy. Her fiery temperament and joie de vivre do nothing to undermine the social criticism she expresses in her nostalgic ballads tinged with pop.
Already at 24, Elida Almeida shows an impressive maturity, talent and generosity.

While waiting for her new album to appear for the summer, Elida Almeida will release on 23 March, the EP "Djunta Kudjer" – much awaited by the Cape Verdean community, with 4 unreleased tracks, including "Bersu d'Oru" on a very festive Tabanka rhythm. A strong title to accompany her new tour starting on April 6 in Lisbon at the Teatro Tivoli, then going by Paris (8/04: Pan Piper), Praia (15/04: Kriol Jazz Festival), and which will continue in May / June, notably by Rabat, Wurzburg, Berlin, Luxembourg and Rotterdam…

ALBUM / Ora Doci Ora Margos (2014)

Elida Almeida overcomes the traumas of her troubled childhood on an album overflowing with folk melodies and seasoned with the beats of the Island of Santiago: batuque, funana and morna, uplifted by the subtle arrangements of guitarist Hernani Almeida.

“Ora doci Ora margos” reflects the hopes and dreams of young Cape Verdeans eager to escape their isolation and embrace the world. The young singer’s style isvery different from Cesaria Evora’s, yet it works the same enchantment, shining through in the sincerity of her voice and the allure of her message.

The album was released in Cape Verde in December 2014 (and in Portugal in January 2015) meeting immediate success thanks to the two videos “Nta Konsigui”and “Lebam Ku Bo”.
